What is Ultra Violet (UV) light?
When UV light makes contact with microorganisms, it penetrates their DNA, obliterating the adenine and thymine bonds. This effectively neutralizes bacteria, viruses, spores, and molds by halting their replication and ability to cause infections.
There are two predominant UVC lamp technologies employed in Industrial and Municipal sectors:
1, Amalgam lamps provide a singular (monochromatic) wavelength output at 254nm, achieving over 30% conversion efficiency of electricity into UVC light. These lamps excel in energy efficiency; however, due to their low power range (100 to 800 watts) and extended length, they are ideal where efficiency is paramount, though larger multi-lamp configurations can become
cumbersome and challenging to maintain.
2,Medium Pressure lamps deliver a broad-spectrum (polychromatic) output, which can be advantageous for aligning with the specific sensitivity of target organisms. Despite a lower energy efficiency (~15%), they boast high power levels (1kW to 24kW) and compact size, requiring fewer lamps within a smaller reactor.
